The teaching of History nurtures children’s curiosity about the past and helps them develop a secure understanding of how historical events, significant people and changes over time have shaped the world we live in today. History is taught through Kapow’s History scheme, which provides engaging and progressive units of learning across the school.
We strive to inspire pupils to become curious and analytical thinkers with a broad understanding of the past. We encourage children to develop the confidence to question and investigate evidence, explore different perspectives, and build informed interpretations of historical events.
Through our school’s History learning journey, we have ensured that our curriculum is:
- Rich in knowledge, skills and vocabulary, which are clearly identified, explicitly taught and securely retained by pupils.
- Carefully sequenced, enabling key historical concepts and understanding to be built upon progressively year by year.
- Diverse and forward-thinking, allowing children to make meaningful connections between their local area and the wider world. By developing knowledge and understanding of historical events and trends, pupils gain a deeper appreciation of the world and current events today.
- Rooted in the core British Values, which are woven throughout the curriculum, helping children to understand their role as informed, respectful and responsible citizens.
