Year 4 - Class Page

Year 4

The staff at St Paul’s C of E Primary School are committed to working together to contribute to the healthy growth and development of all our children.

We aim for each child to reach their full potential, to be confident and to develop a positive attitude towards their own learning. We will provide a wide range of learning opportunities for the children, encourage them to value their own achievements and to celebrate the success of others. Our high expectations for achievement include good behaviour, tolerance, co-operation and fairness.

Ethos: Happy and hardworking, healthy head and heart

Vision: to enable all of our pupils to feel safe and secure; and to become confident learners who strive to reach their full potential

Year 4 is set to be an exciting year full of creativity, discovery and challenge. We will launch our English learning with a magical Harry Potter Day, inspiring children to write engaging newspaper reports, detailed character descriptions, how-to guides, stories, and a range of other imaginative pieces.

In Mathematics, pupils will continue to develop their confidence and fluency with number skills as they prepare for the Multiplication Tables Check in the Summer Term. Regular practice will help children build speed and accuracy with times tables.

Our History topic will take us back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Anglo-Saxons, learning about how they lived and the impact they had on Britain. In Geography, we will investigate rivers, discovering how they are formed, the journey they take, and their importance to people and the environment.

In Art, children will combine their creativity and literacy skills by creating exciting comic strips inspired by poetry, bringing poems to life through illustrations and visual storytelling.

Throughout the year, Year 4 pupils will be encouraged to be curious, resilient and creative learners as they explore a wide range of engaging topics and experiences.

Times Tables

Times-tables are a key part of our maths curriculum, because a good knowledge of your times-tables makes many maths skills much easier: multiplication, division, fractions, area… all these things require you to know some facts off-by-heart.

In Year 4, we recommend the free website Timestables.co.uk, because it has lots of small, easy steps to learning these important facts, as well as some excellent games. In many games, you can choose which times-tables you want to work on.

You can also practise for the Year 4 Multiplication Check here, too, and find out how many sums you can do in 100 seconds!

Make sure you login to the site so that all the medals, rosettes and trophies you earn are saved in your trophy cabinet!

Homework and Spellings

Pupils will receive a piece of Maths and/or English homework every Monday that will relate to the learning they have been doing in class that week. This will be due in the following Monday.

Pupils will also be given a hard copy of their spellings on Monday for each week. These will then be tested on the following Monday.

There is an expectation that pupils will be reading at home and practising their times tables too.

P.E Days

Our P.E. days this term are Monday and Thursday. Please make sure your child comes into school wearing their P.E. kit on these days.

Our Swimming Sessions start on Monday 16th November every weekday for a two week period, ending on the 27th November.
