At St Paul’s C of E Primary School, we are proud to be an inclusive school where every child is valued, supported and encouraged to thrive. Our staff are committed to ensuring that all pupils, regardless of their individual needs, are fully included in the life of our school and have access to a broad, balanced, ambitious and high-quality education.
We recognise that every child is unique and brings their own strengths, skills, talents and interests. While we prioritise quality first teaching for all pupils, we also understand that some children may require additional support to help them access the curriculum, overcome barriers to learning and make progress. We aim to provide appropriate teaching, nurture, resources and targeted interventions to help every child reach their full potential.
Our staff are committed to supporting children with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities. We regularly review and develop staff knowledge and training to ensure that we can respond effectively to pupils’ individual needs. Where appropriate, we work in partnership with families and a range of specialist services, including:
- Educational Psychologists
- Autism Outreach and specialist advisory services
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists
- Behaviour and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) support services
We value the expertise and guidance these professionals provide and work collaboratively with families and external agencies to ensure that children receive appropriate support.
Our Graduated Response to SEND
Support for pupils with SEND is personalised, regularly reviewed and adapted in response to their individual strengths and needs. Our approach follows a graduated response of Assess, Plan, Do, Review, ensuring that provision is carefully considered and adjusted to support pupils’ progress and wellbeing.
This may include:
- Quality first teaching, with differentiation and adaptations planned into everyday lessons.
- Individual or small-group support where appropriate.
- Targeted resources and strategies to scaffold learning and remove barriers to accessing the curriculum.
- Regular monitoring and assessment of progress, with opportunities to share feedback and discuss next steps with pupils and parents/carers.
- Small-group learning to provide additional support, encouragement and appropriate challenge.
- Pre-teaching of key vocabulary and concepts, alongside targeted interventions where these are appropriate.
- Support for communication, interaction, emotional wellbeing, sensory needs and developing independence.
- Opportunities to participate fully in wider school life, including enrichment activities, clubs, trips and other school events.
We recognise the importance of listening to children and their families. Pupil voice and parental views help us understand what is working well, identify areas for development and ensure that support remains responsive to each child’s needs.
