Art & Design

(Page under construction)

Art is highly valued at St Pauls and whilst skills and techniques are taught specifically, art is integrated across the curriculum and is reflected in many subjects.

Children have the opportunity to experience the key elements  including colour, shape, texture, pattern and line, in both 2D and 3D form with reference to past and present day artists as well as engaging 1-1 with practitioners through our many workshops, either in school or through visits to local exhibitions. Children are encouraged to develop individuality and critical awareness through their artwork and personal study.

At St Pauls we show the children how we value their artwork by displaying it around the school as part of creating a stimulating learning environment. Each year we have a whole school focus for our artwork and this has ranged from a ‘Water Project’ culminating in a working water sculpture to our Jubilee box exhibition where every child created their own interpretation of the queens jubilee ‘ in a box’, to a ‘Masked Parade’ where every child made their own fantastic mask.

An Annual workshop in the summer term offers the opportunity for the children to exhibit their work and give presentations to parents and the community. As well as providing a focus for Art it allows pupils the opportunity to create, to use their imagination and most important of all, to enjoy themselves.
